Will a titanium prosthesis or implant set off metal detectors used in airports, for instance?

(The World)

Titanium metal has very weak paramagnetic properties, meaning it will not set off metal detectors, as most of them make use of these in order to detect metals. There even was a press coverage, regarding a reporter who successfully evaded the airport security at the JFK, while carrying a 8-inch-long piece of titanium, highlighting what he thought it is major flaw for the current security methods, as the market is full of titanium knives of different types, which may potentially be used in hijacking attempts aboard the aircraft.
